Take a look at the schematics below
Use the opportunity to construct a gun rack with the help of the tools and materials you have at hand. There is absolutely no need for additional expenses in case you have time and desire to make it on your own.
We present you a Rifle Rack plan that’ll aid you in your work. It represents just one design option and if it suits your needs then you might want to try to replicate this idea.
This project requires the following materials which are reasonably easy to get or find in your garage.
Homemade gun rack. The list of materials:
One, 1 x 6 x 8′ (For the panels use composite or hardwood; softer types of wood such as pine might break when the side panels are cut so that’s definitely not an option)
One, 1 x 2 x 2′
Two pieces, 1/4″ plywood, 5 1/2″ x 4 1/2″
One piece, 1/8″ backboard, 2′ x 2′
1 1/2″ brads and wood glue
In order to facilitate your work, we have divided the process into several phases.
Phase 1 – The first step is to pick 1 x 6 and cut two pieces to 24″ length for side panels.
Phase 2 – For the storage compartment pick the 1 x 6 and cut two pieces to 22 1/2″ length.
Phase 3 – For the strut pick the 1 x 2 and cut one piece to 22 1/2″ in length.
Phase 4 – For spacers for storage area pick the 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ plywood and cut two pieces to 4 1/2″.
Phase 5 – Dry fit all the pieces with the back panel on your working bench to confirm proper fit.
Phase 6 – Fit together the base storage section. Pick the two pieces of 1 x 6 x 22 1/2″ as well as the two pieces of plywood, 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ x 4 1/2″. With the help of corner jigs, some glue and nails assemble the four pieces to complete the storage section.
Alternative: Your option would be to assemble the storage section later by using the 1/4″ plywood just as spacers and not as permanent side pieces.
Phase 7– Pick up the two side panels 1 x 6, layout the base storage section 6″, and outline the markings for cutting the rifle sockets. Take notice of the sockets on the right side being one inch higher for the purpose of leveling the rifles in the straight horizontal position.
Phase 8– Proceed to cutting the side panels, for this purpose you are free to utilize a coping saw, rotary saw or a band saw. For the round sockets you can use a 2 1/8″ hole saw.
Phase 9 – You have to knock together the side panels with the storage compartment.
Note: The 1/4″ plywood storage compartment sides can be used as spacers only; you may get rid of the spacers once you have attached the bottom and top of the storage section to the side panels.
Phase 10– Assembling the top strut; Select 1 x 2 and place the crossbar 5″ lower from the top point; use two 2″ woodscrews on each end to lock the strut in place.
Note: You can use this strut to lock the riffle holder to a wall.
Phase 11– Set up the back panel. Pick out the 2′ x 2′ back panel and secure it into place using 1″ brads.
A fully completed gun rack
Now you have a ready for usage riffle holder. You might want to use some paint in order to fit it to your personal needs. Use sand for final touches and wood putty to mask the nails or screws. Secure it on your wall by using 2 1/2″ woodscrews into the studs. Now you have your gun rack ready to display your riffles and ensure protection for your property.
